2007 PAST GLORY…(more)
Rubberboots and the Rocket of DoomForthwith are the highlights of the .45 Adventure game played at Cangames 2007, the 7th in the adventures of the many generations of the notorious scoundrels of the Rubberboots family. Stay tuned for "Rubberboots and King Midas's Gold" in 2008. Scene 1 - Escape from Castle HaalanzeAfter the fall of Norway in 1940 the Nazis manage to capture the architect of the Norwegan secret weapon the Trondheim rocket Dr. Maartluk. Imprisoned in a castle north of the capital the good doctor awaits interrogation by the notorious Rutger Meissner and the vile Dr. Katt-Mangele.
Meissner, never one for quiet arrivals, arrives with an escort of motorcycles followed by his hangars on and catering staff.
The convoy is not how it seems. His catering staff have been infiltrated by the allies and his motorcyle escort is made up of followers of a mysterious cult of green hooded thugs and malcontents. As the convoy approaches the gate the high pitch screech on a monkey rings out and the convoy is covered in smoke and debris as several devices are detonated.
Undettered by the carnage behind him Meissner pushes forward into the castle seeking to capture Dr. Maartluk and take him for interrogation somewhere with better security. However the security situation was worse than it seemed as most of the guards of the castle had been captured and replaced by British Commandos under the redoubtable Lt. Rowan. Meissner entered the castle to a spray of Thompson machine gun fire and quickly veered away as the doctor was whisked into a waiting Kubelwagon and drvien away from the carnage.
Scene 2 - Escape through the FjordsArmed with the location of the Doctors rocket, Lt. Rowan and American archaeologist "Two-Gun" Tom Smithers raced north to the location of the rocket. Sadly an armoured Kubelwagon was not the most efficient of vehicles and the rest of the convoy managed to catch up to them once the confusion of the explosions had subsided.
Speed mattered little in the end as once again the mysterious hooded figures thwarted our heros by felling trees on the road forcing our heros to get out and clear the way while under fire
As the Kubelwagen roared off again Two Gun heard banging on top of the vehicle. It was Albert Hickson, disgraced former professor of Antiquities at Oxford who had disappeared many years ago when found accepting money from a shadowy secret organization. A struggle ensued on top of the vehicle as Two Gun overcame the professor and left him in road as they sped towards the launch site.
Scene 3 - On the Island of DoomAs Lt. Rowan brought his vehicle to a stop his worst fears had been realized. The rocket was in the hands of the Jade Menace and his minions, enemies of order, security and a decent Marmite sandwich.
Realizing that there was nothing to do to save this technology for the forces of good Two Gun did what he did best - sailed towards the island and unloaded a clip into the rocket fuel next to the rocket. As it exploded and spun out of control our heros turned for home but not before the vile Dr. Stick and Iago "the Skull" exacted thier doomed master's revenge and pushed the wheelchair confined professor into the water. Two Gun did his best but could not save the professor before he sunk into the deep.
