ACCOMMODATIONS

Coming from outside the Ottawa area? Looking for a place to crash during the CanGames convention?

While there are many fine hotels in downtown Ottawa, most gamers are looking for something cheap and preferably close by the event.

If you are carpooling with some friends, the Cardinal Suites is an inexpensive option, located on Merivale off Carling. They provide housekeeping suites (I stayed there with my family a few year’s ago—simple but clean).

Within walking distance of the CanGames convention site is the Albert at Bay Suite Hotel which are more expensive housekeeping units, but very convenient.

If you like to hostel, the HI Hostels’ Ottawa Jail Hostel is really amazing—it was formerly the Carleton County Gaol (Jail), and is reputed to be haunted (oohhh scary!). This historical landmark offers an experience with character, charm and historical significance. The hostel is downtown on Nicolas Street, and you can get to the CanGames site by bus or taxi (CanGames is held at 715 Cooper Street). Check out Maps & Directions for a list of nearby routes, or OCTranspo’s neat travel planner or to get exact bus routes and frequencies.

This year we are going to try to help people who are looking for an empty couch to sleep on for their visit to Ottawa. Www.couchsurfing.com is a Website that matches visitors with a friendly (and free) place to crash when traveling. There are several groups on the Website dedicated to board games and a new RPG group just started in October 2007. Are you a Ottawa resident with a spare couch? Then consider hosting a visiting gamer during the CanGames weekend through the www.couchsurfing.com Website.

If you are looking for a ride, try www.Kijiji.ca, which is a free online classified ad site. It has an active section for rideshares offered and sought. Craigslist is also popular.

Please note that none of these businesses or services are screened or endorsed by CanGames. This information is offered purely to get  you started in planning your trip.

Welcome to Cangames, the longest-running games convention in Eastern Ontario, Western Quebec, and all of Canada! At Ottawa's Cangames, you can play RPGs (role playing games such as Dungeons and Dragons), board games (such as Carcassone, Risk, and Settlers of Catan), collectable card games (such as Magic the Gathering) and miniatures games (such as Warhammer).
